Orange Shirt Day - Thursday, October 1

The first Orange Shirt Day came about in 2013 when residential school survivor Phyllis (Jack) Webstad talked about how her new orange shirt had been taken away during her first day of school at the St. Joseph Mission in  Williams Lake, B.C.

Since then Orange Shirt Day has become an opportunity to highlight the impact that residential schools had on students and their families.

Sept. 30 was chosen as the date for the commemoration because that’s the time of year when children were taken from their homes to residential schools BUT Reed Ranch is celebrating on Thursday, October 1 this year so our Kindergarten class may also take part by wearing an orange shirt.
